Hottest Posts and Highlights of 2011

Not surprisingly, the celebrity nurseries were the most popular posts of the year.  I loved Christina Applegate‘s (top) and Rachel Zoe‘s (bottom) choices for their nurseries so I put together lists of the products to help you copy their super style.

So many of you were searching for the best high chairs of 2011 and discovered my roundup of “Best High Chair That Isn’t An Eye Sore” 2011 Cribsie FinalistsStokke was the winner by the way!  We’ll have to update the list for 2012.  There are a few newcomer who should be recognized this time around.  Stay tuned!

We had a lot of beautiful room tours like the stunning “I’ll Take Gray Any Day“,

Marcus’ Soothing Safari,

Cordelia’s Calm and Candy-Colored Nursery,

and Ella’s Nursery from Finland.

You were really excited about the Missoni Crib Bedding for Target.  Unfortunately, at the time of my post, the bedding was sold out.  If you’re still interested though, you can order it now (for a limited time).  There are four different designs to choose from.

The new Dutailier nursery furniture sets that I photographed at ABC Kids really got your attention and I’m happy to let you know that these will be popping up in stores beginning in January.

It’s been a thrilling year.  We were in the top 10 in ohdeedoh’s Homies for Best Kids Design Blog of 2011, and we were finalists in the 2011 Cribsie’s Coolest Design Ideas For the Nursery and the Totally Awesome Awards for Nursery and Decor Sites.  We were also honored as editor’s pick for Best Toy and Gear Blog in Parents Magazine Best Blog Awards!  If that doesn’t make for a great year, I don’t know what does!

On the home front, my little one started preschool and my older boy graduated from preschool and started Kindergarten.  We potty trained a child and taught the other to ride a bicycle!  We’ve traveled to Arizona, New York and Missouri.  We celebrated grandmothers who turned 85 and 90 years old and learned that we will be welcoming two new baby cousins into the family.

2011 was a great success and 2012 is full of potential.  Can’t wait to share it with you.

Washing Machine Hamper #2

We saw the Washing Machine Hamper from CB2 a few weeks ago and now The Land of Nod has their own kid specific version, the Kids Washing Machine Laundry Hamper*.  This one is just a little less expensive– $25 vs. $30.  Not quite worth doing a “rich or reasonable” post out of but worth showing you nonetheless.

I Buy Modern: For My Boys For the Holidays

Lego Melissa & Doug, Battat, Sprig, Guidecraft

1- Lego Education World People Set- $40 This set of 16 Lego Duplo figures adds a little variety to the characters found in other Duplo sets.  It’s a great addition to our Lego Duplo collection.

2- Melissa & Doug Ice Cream Scoop Set- $30  We already have the Pizza Party and now for dessert, we’ll be having ice cream!

3- 3D Feel & Find- $30 This is fun as a toy or as a game.  We play as a family with everyone taking turns feeling in the bag and trying to find one of the shapes that they need.

4- Sprig Soarin’ Sea Plane- $25 and Sprig Dolpin Adventure Playset- $30 These two Sprig Toy sets will be a fun addition to our bath time toy collection

5- Take-a-Part Airplane- We also have the Roadster and they’re perfect for playing mechanic.  These might be plastic with battery operated tools, but there’a a lot of fun to be had taking these apart and putting them back together.

6- BrickStix- $6 each pack (we got Metro, Space and Transport so far)  These are more fun than I even expected.  Reusable cling decals turn stacks of plain bricks into anything you can imagine.  Also help to dress up more ordinary Lego sets.  These are going to be lots of fun.  Can’t wait to get the rest of the sets!

7- Lego MiniFigure Speech Bubbles- $10  These are a hoot for my little Lego fanatic.

What were some of your children’s favorite gifts?

Tegu Explorer Sets: Featuring Trapezoids!

As someone who got Tegu blocks LAST year, I kinda wish I had waited!  Tegu’s new Explorer Sets feature 4 large and 4 small trapezoidal pieces that from experience playing with Tegu, I know I need!  The set comes in all Tegu colorways and is a great set to start with.

The Explorer sets retail for $110.  Right now, only the tints are listed in the Tegu store but I noticed you can order any of them on lilipicked.com.

My Modern Christmas Picks

Meet Colonel Cloud.  He reminds me of a Nutcracker and that gets me thinking of Christmas.

You can order Colonel Cloud from Forgot Shop and your holiday will be happier with 15% of any purchases at Forgot Shop with the discount code: BUYMODERNBABY!

The holiday pillows from Little Korboose are precious. (Christmas Tree, Candy Cane, Snowman $25 each)

Order yours and put them away for next year!

Finally, I love the Christmas Peppermint Stripe Toddler Tuffet ($40) and Red and White Linen Modern Quilt ($350) from Peppermint Pinwheels.

These look just great for the holidays but can be used year round.

A Little About Hanukkah via Sesame Street

Good video summary for kids and parents alike.

Happy Hanukkah!

Tonight marks the first night of Hanukkah so I rounded up a few holiday picks for you.  This Chanukah Set from KidKraft is the most popular (and excellent) Hanukkah toy out there. I highly recommend this for any child who celebrated Hanukkah.  It’s in short supply this time of year, but if you pick it up out of season, you can find a good deal on it.

I liked the Menorah toy they had at Pottery Barn Kids this year also, but it looks like it sold out.

I also found a few more Hanukkah items/gifts:

Sevi Von – A unique DIY Dreidel for Hanukkah- 19.90 from Limor Yaron
Modern Style Hanukkah Menorah in Wood The Family Heirloom by Little Alouette 10 piece set- $65 from Little Alouette
Wooden Puzzle Hanukkah Menorah- $37
Uncle Goose Hebrew ABC Blocks- $33

Chag Hanukkah Sameach!
