CUNA furnishings
I’ve had my eye on CUNA‘s collection of nursery furnishings for a while, but there weren’t many pictures of the pieces that I could use. All I had seen for years was computer renderings of the designs, but now there are a few photos of these highly exclusive bassinets, dressers, play tables and chairs.
First they have the CUNA Bee Collection. This collection includes a bassinet, dresser, Cool-Stool, Play N’ Learn table and chair set and the Rock N’ Roll Toro.
Here you can see the bassinet and dresser in natural with a Strawberry accent.

Using a separate conversion kit, the bassinet becomes a desk and toy box set.

The Play N’ Learn Table and Chair Set is a unique design,

and my favorite might be the Rock N’ Roll Toro (as I have a fondness for rocking toys).

The Bee collection is available at a few select retailers including my affiliate AllModernBaby. Prices for items in this collection reflect their exclusive nature. Bassinet set retails for about $1600, the dresser is $1950. The Play N’ Learn Table and Chair Set is $1085 and the Rock N’ Roll Toro is $796.
CUNA’s second collection is the Hive Collection. I’m partial to this one but I haven’t found actual photos of these pieces yet. The Hive Collection includes a Bassinet (that converts into a playtable and toybox), Dresser, Twin Bed, Kids Chairs, and a Step Stool.

The CUNA Hive collection can also be found at my affiliate partner AllModernBaby.com. The dresser retails for about $1000, the twin bed is about $1410 and the bassinet set is $900. The Hive Chair that goes with the play table is $167.
Finally, CUNA has these cute wood hand puzzles called CUNANIMALS.

You can find a cute set of CUNANIMALS for $29. These would make a lovely gift.
I think CUNA has lots of interesting designs but if I had to give them one piece of advice, I’d recommend they hire a good photographer to do the collection some justice.
I Buy Modern: My Recent Purchases
I don’t just find all this great stuff for you to buy. I’m a big-time online shopper and I put my money where my mouth is. Here are a few of my most recent purchases.

1- I finally have my very own Cuckoo Clock from decoylab ($34). It fits perfectly in my son’s bedroom and I’m super happy with it. I got it on the Foundary! The packaging was great and would help make one of these an incredible gift.
2- 10 oz SIGG Little Kids Bottles- Jurassic Shadows and Jungle Shadows- $18 each
I picked these up on Totsy! I ordered one for each of my boys to take with them to school next year.
3- Fire Chief Role Play Costume from Melissa and Doug ($23 on amazon). We love all the costume sets from Melissa & Doug and this is just the latest (we also have the chef, police officer and knight). They fit the 5 year old and we roll the sleeves up a bit for the 2 year old.
4- Lovely, Love My Family Print in Yellow from Tuesday Morning. I can’t believe I never posted about these prints (especially since I posted the song), but I did buy one for the family room!

Black and White
After I saw the “Black is beautiful” post on Bloesem Kids, and since my little penguin preoccupation from last Monday, I’ve been seeing all kinds of wonderful black and white items all over the place.
I don’t typically show much black and white because it’s what people think of as that stereotypical cold, stark look that is used to criticize modern design but on the other hand, it can be a beautiful combination. In fact, I’ve been collecting different black and white patterns in my office. I’ve got a blanket that hangs over my chair, graphic black and white curtains and several different pillows and cushions.
I’m not recommending that you use all the items here together. This is not meant to be used as a nursery design. It just a collection of wonderful black and white items that you might love. And yes, the collection has the stereotypical pop of red as well. Sorry!

1- Argington Sahara Crib Ebony and White- $495
2- bloom Coco Plexistlye White Baby Lounger with black cushion- $340
3- Marimekko Pillows from Crate & Barrel Unikko, Frekvenssi, Tuuli, Joonas, Pienet Kivet and Bottna 20″ Pillows- $72 each
4- LikeABike LIKEtoBIKE- $495
5- Kaareva Ottoman- $1000 (my main inspiration for this post!)
6- Keith Haring Baby Rocker from Vilac- $225
7- BINTH Joker Print framed- $48
8- Abstract Flying Saucers II Mobile- $70
9- Zuny Classic Dog Bookend- $60
Jonathan Adler Junior Nightlights
Sometimes it’s hard to find just the perfect nightlight. Well, I just found three.

I’d take any one of these nightlights from Jonathan Adler Junior.

They Posted These So I Don’t Have To
These are some of my favorite posts from around the web over the past week.
I enjoyed this e tells tales nursery tour on Chic Spaces for Little Faces. There are a lot of inspirational ideas in this cute little room.

Colorful Graphics from Patrick Hruby
Patrick Hruby is a young artist who is making a big splash. His bright and bold graphic works are just so rich and fun that I can’t get enough. Appealing to both kids and adults, we’re going to be seeing a lot from Patrick. Let’s start with these:
From blik, the Imaginary Castle decal comes in 3 foot wide ($45) and 6 foot wide ($110) sizes. Let your imagination go from there.

Patrick has done a number of books with Ammo Books, including this stunning board book, ABC Is For Circus.

There’s also a beautiful Patrick Hruby Memory Game that goes along with the book.

And if you still need more, how about these colorful glasses. They’re a bit more sophisticated than the Burger King collectible glasses we used when I was a kid.

I’m inspired to add more color to my life. You?
My Modern Nursery #44: Lavender and Lime
This design board was a reader request. I was a little reluctant to tackle this color combination because it’s been done the wrong way so many times. Just google it and you’ll see what I mean– not very modern. But sometimes I like to take on a challenge, so here’s what I did to make lavender and lime modern for a baby girl.
1- AMELIA – Purple and Green Botanical Cranes Mobile from Gin and Rummy- $45
2- Noah Owl Storage Box from Mod Mom Furniture- $475
3- P’kolino Multi-Use Art Easel- $120
4- Areaware Pico Purple Terrier Pillow- $28
ollie & lime George 4-Piece Crib Set- $320
5- Ikea PS Maskros Pendant Lamp- $90
6- Rosa Pillow from Chiasso- $68 (discontinued)
Shred White Pillow from CB2- $40
Breathe Organic Pillow Cover from pbteen- $29
7- Botanic Canvas Artwork- Dahlia and Pod- $58 each
8- Oeuf Robin Crib in Birch- $590
Ikea PS Fangst- $5
9- Nurseryworks Sleepytime Rocker in Microsuede- $700
10- Deer Wool Rug (5′ x 7.6′) from Avalisa- $778
When Did You Finish The Nursery?
This photo was taken 11/22/2005 at about 11 pm. At a doctor appointment earlier that day, we were assured that we had another 2 weeks before we could expect the baby. Less than 12 hours after I snapped the picture, our little one was born.

As you can see, the nursery was not quite done.
So do tell…

Leander Products Update
Last November, I promised the Leander Dresser, Changer and High Chair were coming soon. In case you hadn’t yet noticed, they are now all available!
The clean-lined, slightly curvaceous Four Drawer Dresser is available in Chocolate, White and White Wash finishes for $1050. This piece is manufactured by Tulip and is really the best option if you’re looking for a dresser to go with the beautiful Leander Crib.

The Leander Changing Table has the same dramatic curves as the Leander Crib and converts to a desk after it completes its life as a changer. For $1275 its a wonderful companion piece to the crib.

The Leander high chair (shown at the desk above) is also available for purchase in the US now so if you’re looking for a bent wood chair that “grows” with you, this is one to consider. It is available in Black, Cherry, Natural, Walnut, White Wash for $280. Cushions in 8 different colors are an additional $50.

Finally, this beautiful Leander table and stool set is coming soon so we’ve got something else to look out for! This set is absolutely gorgeous.

First spotted this one on Minor Details!
