Etsy Find: Salty and Sweet Mobiles

If you’re obsessed with finding the perfect mobile, we’ve got a few unique ideas for you from Salty and Sweet.  Some of their mobiles aren’t exactly appropriate for the nursery (like the Left 4 Dead inspired mobile or the PinUp mobile) but others might be just what you’re looking for.

Where the Wild Things Are inspired mobile

Mario Evolution mobile

Skate or Die mobile

Vintage Camera Mobile

Star Trek and Star Wars mobiles?  They make those too!  All mobiles sell for $33.

New Addition: Eames Molded Plastic Armchair with Rocker Base

This isn’t news to anyone, but an Eames Rocker is a beautiful choice for a modern nursery.  I’ve been delinquent in adding it to my list of rocking chairs but I took care of it today.  Unlike the fiberglass originals, today’s Eames molded chairs are made of 100% recyclable polypropylene (not that I’m sure why you’d ever be throwing it into a recycling bin).  For $480, this is the most inexpensive rocker on the list, although that does tell me I need to do some work and find more budget friendly rocking chair options!

These come in a variety of neutral and bright colors.

If plastic doesn’t quite do it for you and you want to purchase a new fiberglass shell chair, they are currently being manufactured by Modernica so you can take a look at those as well.  Those cost about $375 when purchased new.

There are plenty of places to score knock-off chairs like these for as little as $125 if you’re just going for the look.

If you’re comfortable with the feel of the chair, you know you can’t go wrong with the design.

But you don’t have to take MY word for it!  To see examples of a these rockers used in different nurseries, take a look at my flickr gallery.

Real Room Tour: Simply Sweet for Alice

I love my readers, and nothing thrills me more than opening an email from one of you and finding fantastic photos of a lovely nursery.  You can imagine my joy upon discovering this sweet space from Claudia in Montreal– after all, they live in an old candy factory!

I’m sharing these photos completely uncropped and unedited because they are perfect just the way they are.

Sources for some of the carefully chosen items in the room:
Aqua Cuckoo Clock
from Decoylab- $36
Elephant with Calf from Petit Collage- $25
Matryoshka Softie from Little Red Caboose (on clearance at my affiliate Fawn & Forest) or you can check if there’s anything available at her etsy shop
DIY the Elephant Pillow

You can learn more about Claudia and this space on her charming blog, Aux Petit Oiseaux.  Thank you so much Claudia for sharing this special nursery with us.  You can see how every part of it was put together with great love and care.

(If you would like me to feature your nursery here as well, please drop a line to esther@buymodernbaby.com)

Tree Bookcase from Nurseryworks

Some of you have been waiting for this one, so I’ll end the suspense.  You can now purchase Tree Bookcase from Nurseryworks!  Designed by Shawn Soh, this idea was a blog sensation when the photos originally came out at the end of 2009.

Now you can purchase this piece as a focal point for your little one’s nursery or bedroom.  The shelf measures 47″ x 6″ x 63″.  It is available in Snow and Forest Green and retails for $850.

You can order one of these bookshelves from our affiliates Fawn & Forest, All Modern Baby, Posh Tots or a number of other online retailers.  I can’t wait to see pictures of these popping up in people’s real rooms.

My Modern Nursery #39: Reader Request

I can’t believe it’s been three weeks since I posted a design board!  That doesn’t mean I haven’t been working on them.  I’ve especially enjoyed working with Robin on her baby’s gender neutral nursery over the past couple weeks.  Robin came to me with an inspiration and a very small room.  She was drawn to the Alphabet Poster by Jenn Ski so I used that as a starting point.  We worked back and forth and this is what we came up with.

Robin was fortunate to have some hand-me-down furniture.  The crib, dresser and rocker shown are not the same ones she has, but they are my picks for you to recreate the room with.

1- Alphabet Zoo Education Art Poster Print by Jenn Ski, 38×24- $23

2- Cozy Convertible Crib from AP Industries- $775
Woodours Wood Musical Crib Mobile, Brown- $59

3- Smile Pillow in Yellow from Honey Pie Design- $38
Custom crib skirt using DwellStudio Gate Citrine Fabric (Robin’s MIL is making one but you can have it made by Isla Corinne)
Meadowsweet Fabric Bunting from Paisley Handmade- $25

4- Aina curtains from Ikea- $50

5- Zigzag rug from West Elm 5′x8′- $250

6- Round Owl and Sweet Owl from Skårt- $52 each

7- Copenhagen 3 drawer dresser from AP Industries

8- Nyfors Floor Lamp- $80
with Kivsta Shade from Ikea- $25
360 Perforated Steel Side Table from Urban Outfitters- $140

9- Little Castle Monaco Glider in Microsuede- $800 (now on sale for $633)
Labyrinth Citrine Pillow from DwellStudio- $78 (I want one of these in Ash!)

10- Stacked Turtle Print, Stacked Elephant Print and Custom Birth Print from trendy peas- $29, $24, $26

New at Restoration Hardware

There are a few especially interesting pieces in Restoration Hardware Baby & Child’s new collection and some that would do well in a modern space.

First is their new Roll Arm Rocker for $1100-$1500.

These mini chairs- the 1950′s Copenhagen Chair ($1200) and the Mini Devon Chair ($750) are show-stoppers in leather.

I also really like the Foundry Metal Cubby System ($800 as shown) as a storage option.  If you want something more durable than an Expedit from Ikea, I think this powder-coated iron shelving might to the trick.

Foundry Metal Cubby System - Wide

There are also a number of interesting decor items that would infuse a space with tons of personality.

Schoolhouse Linen Pillow Covers Moon Desk Globe

Night Sky Map Vintage Industrial Letters

Vintage City Print Art- Manhattan Industrial Basket & Toys Liner

schoolhouse linen pillow covers ($29-$34), moon desk globe ($60)
night sky map ($219), vintage industrial letters ($14 each)
vintage city print art ($200), industrial basket & toys liner ($270)

Sunday Special Story: “Lego City Police Men”

My (very not-artistic) 5 yo decided to write and illustrate a story yesterday.  He took a lot of time and care (for him) to draw the pictures and write out the words he wanted.  I had to share the product of his labor.

Go read the story!

They Posted These So I Don’t Have To

These are some of my favorite posts from around the web over the past week.

Spearmint Baby posted this lovely collection of dinosaur items because some kids just can’t get enough of them.

We’re huge Lego fans so this Lego Inspiration post on Warm Hot Chocolate really caught my attention.  Fun stuff.

I’ll admit to having a love/hate relationship with wall decals, but I find this photo to be rather inspirational.  See the cute owls peeking into the crib?  You can win this Extra Large Wall Decal “The Owl Tree” from Little Lion at Bloesem Kids.

I was happy to see some New Bedding from New Arrivals Inc. on Nursery Notations.  Sprout is my favorite too but there are a couple I could work with!

Modern Parents Messy Kids posted an amazing collection of map inspired items in Fresh Finds: Maps & Globes with a Twist.

I especially love the nursery pictured above.  I saw it on ohdeedoh back in February but for the full tour, go see the photos of Finn’s Nursery on Lillie’s Blog!
