They Posted These So I Don’t Have To

These are some of my favorite posts from around the web over the past week.

Take a look at this beautiful “Grey & Pink Nursery” I saw over on Spearmint Baby.  Gray and pink can be done in so many ways.

Honey & Fitz had some great ideas for “Chalkboard Contact Paper.”  You’ll never need to paint anything with chalkboard paint again.

I’m not big into crafty things, but Prudent Baby’s tutorial on “How to Make a Yarn Pom Pom” has me looking around to find a use for pom poms.

Ohdeedoh found this really interesting “High Chair or Toddler Life Guard Tower?”  Click through to the design boom page to see more.

And Chic & Cheap Nursery has been doing a very nice series “Top 5 Design Trends for 2011” all week long.

Shopping Guide: Flash Sale Sites Updated!

Since my last post about my addiction, flash sale sites, I’ve added a few more memberships to my collection!  I’m pretty sure you could furnish and decorate your nurseries and clothe your children exclusively from these sites…. not to mention buy all the gifts you ever need to give.  I’ve seen nursery furniture sets, crib bedding, strollers, bouncers, art, rugs and much more.  So if you’re putting a nursery together, have kids or know anyone with kids, join the sale sites and keep an eye out.

Yes, I actually look at all their emails daily.  I’m just looking for the kids stuff (and home decor sometimes) so it’s easy to quickly see in the email whether you want to visit the site that day or not.  When you find what you’re looking for, it’s priceless.  Well, not actually priceless, but definitely “priced less!”

My Modern Nursery #34: Mid-Century Style Peacock

I think we all agree that Room & Board’s stock color for their Shay Glider is an unusual choice, but I went with it and made it work.  It would have been very easy to do flowery and heavy patterns here, (maybe I’ll use the chair again in another board and take it in a different direction!) but I went for a more restrained look and it just went all Mid-Century on me– in a good way.

1- Shaggy Multi Pillow from CB2- $50
Bennet Cayenne Pillow from Crate and Barrel- $20
Slice 18″x12″ Pillow from CB2- $35

2- Shay Glider and Ottoman from Room & Board- $900 and $450

3- Boka Persimmon Table Lamp- $200

4- Muu Ray Dresser- $450 ($125 for changing top)

5- A Little Colorful Peacock Print from dekanimal’s etsy shop- $30

6- Jet Set Storage Bench in seaglass from Urban Outfitters- $250

7- Thomas O’Brien Corsaro Ocean Rug from Safavieh 6′X9′- $3000

8- 3.14 White Bookcase from CB2- $450
Aurora Plush 12″ Perry Flopsie- $13

9- Alphabet Poster- Orange from SparklePower’s etsy shop- $15

10- Muu Ray Crib- Hazelnut with White Vine Panel- $925

I think this board is a great starting point.  Then you can have lots of fun accessorizing with interesting vintage pieces like:

Top: Pair Mid-Century Danish Modern Sculpted Teak Lamps- $275
Vintage Belart Mid Century Modern Wall Art Pair- $89

Bottom: Mid Century Atomic 1950s Dresser and Chair (and desk!)- $1059
Mid Century Table Lamp- $72

Now Available: Blooms Alma Papa Crib and Dresser

I hope you haven’t been holding your breath for these since I showed them to you in September, but the Alma Papa Crib and Alma Papa Dresser are now available for purchase!  The Papa Crib is a full size crib that folds for storage and retails for $700.  It is available in Grey (shown), White and Brown.  I love changing trays that fit over the crib (why I bought a Classic Oeuf crib) and I’m excited to see that bloom has designed one.  It fits on any of their cribs and dressers.

The Alma Dresser coordinates beautifully with the crib and retails for $750.

You can find the entire Alma collection (crib, dresser or changing tray) at my affiliate, giggle.

The 2011 mamaRoo from 4moms

4 moms has made a few nice updates to the extremely popular mamaRoo Infant Seat for 2011.

The new seats are shipping right now.  If you order at places like amazon.com, make sure you’ll be getting the new model.  You can choose Red, Silver, Orange, Black, Green or Pink, and the mamaRoo retails for about $200.

If you’re not familiar with all its features and the technology behind the mamaRoo, go see the video, “Thinking Behind the mamaRoo“  –really interesting.

The mamaRoo is included on our guide to modern baby seats and is a popular option for all the gadget and technology loving parents out there.

Shopping Guide: Truck Fabrics

You don’t want to go to crazy with a nursery theme, but that doesn’t mean you can’t include fun elements.  It’s hard to do a cool, modern room based on cars and trucks, but it can be done, particularly if you start with some great fabric accents as your inspiration.  Here are some fabrics that would be a great starting point:

Top Row: Michael Miller Fabrics- Honk Honk
Michael Miller Fabrics- Toot Toot
Michael Miller Fabrics- Haul It

Middle Row: David Walker Free Spirit Oh Boy! Collection DW25White
David Walker Free Spirit Oh Boy! Collection DW31Gold
Mod Cars- Green- Japanese Fabric

Bottom Row: Car Jersey Kokka Fabric from Japan
Trefle Cars, Trucks, Bus Japanese Fabric
Japanese Fabric- Cars in Town

I don’t sew, but browsing through the fabrics is sure inspiring me to learn!

New Addition: Adrift Mobiles

Adrift Mobiles from Schmitt Design are my most recent addition to the nursery decor guide at buymoderndecor.  These mobiles are works of modern art that are equally at home in the nursery as in any other room in your home.

Strung together by clear monofilament, the forms seem to float in mid-air.

They currently have eight different designs ranging in price from $138 to $248.
