A Year of Nursery Design Ideas
This has been a very fun year. I started blogging early in 2010 as a companion to my nursery and product guide buymodernbaby.com. Inevitably, the blog has become much bigger than the guide itself. I’m hope you are enjoying my content as much as I enjoy creating it. One of the most fun things I do is create nursery design boards and so far this year I’ve done over 30 different rooms (a few are kid’s rooms).
If you haven’t seen them all, here’s a little glimpse of them all. Someday I’d love to see one of these brought to life! Any volunteers?
To scroll through these posts and find information about the items used in the rooms, you can always do a search for MyModernNursery. That way you’ll find only the posts with design boards.
And with that… Have a very Happy New Year!! Stay safe tonight and we’ll be back in 2011!

Organizing with boon inc. & Boon Stash Giveaway
I’ve been trying to get things organized around the house in an effort to start off the new year on the right foot. People who know me would describe me as organized, but sometimes running around after two active little boys, the piles and junk bins get away from me and I’d rather shut the door and ignore them. The start of 2011 is a great kick in the pants as I don’t want that clutter lingering and weighing me down in the new year.
With that in mind, this is the perfect opportunity to show you the storage and organization tools from one of my favorite modern baby brands, boon inc.
Particularly after the holidays, you may find yourself with new additions to an already extensive stuffed animal collection. boon’s animal bags might be just the solution to contain them.

These come in several shapes and sizes and when full, they become comfy places to lounge.
boon also has some brand new organization tools that will be coming out in 2011.
I’m really excited about the Flaunt Wall Display (top left), the Grip Multi-Hook Rack and the Curl Baby Shoe Rack (top right). I would especially have loved to have a Loop Diaper Caddy (bottom). They are decorative, functional pieces and I can see them having a place in any nursery.

The Stash Multi-room Organizer (pictured below) is available right now and is a great way to store all those little things that get lost in a drawer. Put one of these on your bathroom counter, on your changing table or in your arts and crafts area. It can sit on a surface or be hung on the wall. The Stash is made of a sturdy BpA-free, Phthalate-free and PVC-free material and is available in white and black.

boon sent me a Stash Wall or Countertop Organizer and you will have a chance to win it! For your chance to win a white Stash:
1) Visit the boon products page and pick your favorite item.
2) Go to our Facebook page and in the discussion about this post, tell me:
a) The favorite item that you picked and…
b) What you’ve got “stashed” away that needs to be organized for the new year!
We will pick our winner randomly from all the entries next Thursday, January 6th. Please enter your comment before 8:00 EST am on the 6th. Only open to US and Canada residents.

Real Room Tour: Racing Inspired Modern Nursery
One last nursery tour in 2010 and we’re going out with a bang. You’re going to love this one. You haven’t seen a boy’s nursery like this yet. Usually if you hear “racing inspired nursery,” you’re going to see a hideous themed space with a race car border running around the room and black and white checkered curtains. Let me assure you, that is FAR from the case here.
Jess was inspired by the racing poster on the left, and you can see the inspiration in the colors, the “racing” stripes on the wall and the black leather chair. Past that, this is a clean and modern space for a little boy to grow into.

If you can believe it, Jess had only 6 weeks to prepare for her adopted son Ben, and the room must have come together like clockwork because it turned out perfectly!

The crib and dresser are the DwellStudio for Target Silver Lake Crib and 4 Drawer Dresser in Walnut and White. The mobile is a Manhattan Toy Infant Stim-Mobile. I love the mobile because it’s designed for baby to see from their position laying in the crib, and it also happens to match the color scheme of the room!

The poster makes a dramatic statement as a big piece of artwork. Don’t be afraid to use large scale pieces. They can be a wonderful focal point.
The reading corner is cozy and practical with a lot of light and books within reach. It is made personal with prized family photos, and that chair looks so comfortable.

The changing area is topped off with this custom monogrammed artwork made especially for Ben.

All the details are so well coordinated and create a welcoming and cozy room for Jess’s new addition.
Don’t you love that little trio of stuffed animals on the bookshelf!
Congratulations Jess and Ben! This is a beautiful nursery that I’m sure will be inspirational to many. Thank you so much for sharing it. Have a very Happy New Year!

2010 Etsy Favorites Revisited
Etsy sellers are constantly coming up with new products and so it’s fun to go back and see what some of your favorite sellers have come up with. We’ve posted almost 50 etsy finds this year so I’m going back today to see what else those shops have for you to take a look at.
In February, I showed you a Grey and Mustard Crib Set from babydarling. I also really like this newer Okra and Chrysanthemum set. It would be a really interesting color combination in a girl’s nursery.
I really liked PinkPerch‘s Lifes A Hoot Owl and Tree Felt Mobile but this Bumble Bee and Beehive Baby Mobile is another cute one!

Supersockmonkeys were a fun find and this Cheshire Cat is my new favorite.

In May I was admiring Jane Fosters animal cushions and vintage fabric pillows, but her new “Tilda” rag dolls are lovely gifts for any little girl.

I really liked BlueElephanyStitch’s Mod Cars Quilt back in June, and the shop currently has six quilt designs to choose from including this handmade modern baby quilt:
I showed you a few of Sleepy King’s plushies in July and now you may want to snag Ludlow- The Freckled Woodland Bear!

In August I showed you the beautiful Chocha Dolls from Carla Valverde, but this Road Pillow is pretty special as well.

I have one of Kristiana’s prints hanging right here in my office. I bought it after I posted about the paintings and prints at krisblues etsy shop. I love this new one called “Save the Polar Bear.”

I’m sure I will continue to return to these favorite shops in the future because they keep producing new and beautiful things! I can’t wait to see what we’ll find on etsy in 2011!
